Doctors call off strike

Accra, March 2, GNA - Striking Medical Officers at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on Thursday called off their strike and declared that they would be resuming work on Friday following a meeting the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) had with them.

The strike was to back their demand for the payment of their feeding allowance, which they said, were due them as far back April 2005 when they assumed duty.

Dr Hadi Abdallah, Deputy Spokesperson for the Doctors, said they decided to go strike after several attempts they made to get the Management of the Hospital to resolve the problem failed. The House Officers on Thursday February 23 embarked on a strike action to demand the restoration of their feeding allowance. The strike action compelled the Hospital authorities to suspend its normal clinical services, attending to only emergencies and inpatients. The Hospital Management had described the strike action as unnecessary and unfair to innocent patients.
