The Member of Parliament (MP) for Klottey Korle, Dr Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings, has reacted to rumours of her appointment as the Minister for Defence by President John Dramani Mahama.

As Zanetor was leaving the Parliament chamber on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, a group of journalists began hailing her, describing her as the “incoming Minister of Defence”.

A video of the encounter showed the MP smiling as she was being referred to as the “incoming Minister of Defence”.

She then said, “Guy, I don’t know about this,” as she continued smiling and was properly placing her scarf around her neck.

Zanetor’s denial, however, did not stop the journalists from praising her, as some of them could be heard saying, “We are proud of you.”

She continued to giggle as she descended from the staircase close to the chamber.

Rumours of Zanetor's appointment as Defence Minister intensified over the past few days following a social media post shared by the General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey.

The NDC General Secretary, in his post, which had a picture of him and Zanetor, pointed out that life is a journey and not a race, adding that every person will get what is meant for them at the right time. He indicated that what is needed while waiting for the “right time” is patience and consistency.

“Don’t rush your journey. What is meant for you will come together at the right time. Stay patient. Stay consistent. Have a great and peaceful week,” Fifi Kwetey wrote on Facebook.

It can be recalled that Mahama, during a meeting with Muslim leaders at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, disclosed that he will appoint his substantive Minister of Defence and Minister of Environment, Science and Technology in 2026.

President Mahama also urged the public to disregard rumours about imminent ministerial appointments.

“So those speculating about somebody going to be appointed tomorrow and all that, just take your time, go and enjoy Christmas, and after Christmas we will fill those ones,” he added.

The two ministerial positions became vacant following the demise of Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr Murtala Mohammed in 2025.

The two late ministers were among eight individuals who tragically died in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, while on their way to a national assignment in the Ashanti Region.
