Your plans will fail - Wontumi tells EC Boss

Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako

Things are not progressing smoothly in the Ashanti region as far as the 2016 Voters’ Register Exhibition exercise is concerned.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, is worried about the snail speed at which officers from the Electoral Commission are working to get voters verified by their biometric verification devices (BVDs) in the region.

He has also blamed President Mahama and the Chairperson of the commission, Madam Charlotte Osei for orchestrating the move to frustrate voters in the Ashanti Region during Register Exhibition exercise.

According to Mr. Antwi Boasiako, several exhibition centres in the Ashanti Region have been poorly equipped to handle the crowd who are visiting officers from the commission to have their names verified.

In an earlier statement signed and copied to Peacefmonline.com by Eric Kofi Dzakpasu, Head of Communications for EC, he stated that over one million registered voters have so far been verified by the biometric verification devices (BVDs) from all exhibition centres across the country.

He continued that reports from all 29,000 centres across the country show apart from the lower than expected response, the exercise is progressing smoothly.

He continued that the Commission has deployed adequate personnel and equipment to ensure that all registered voters spend as little time as possible at the various centres to check their details and get their fingerprints verified.

But Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP deflated the statement made by spokesperson for the commission.

In an interview with Peacefmonline.com, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP noted that as at Monday, July 18, 2016, only four (4) out of three hundred and eighty-one (381) people had verified and registered their names at Nsuta-Kwamang-Beposo. “Then on Tuesday, which was the following morning, they could only register thirty-four people”, he added.

The situation is even murkier and worse at the Atwima Mponua District where twenty (20), out of one thousand seven hundred (1700) people have been able to register. Chairman ‘Wontumi’ as Mr. Antwi Boasiako is affectionately called, noted that voters in the Ashanti Region considered the stronghold of the NPP would not give up despite the delay tactics deployed by the EC.

“Most of the people who have formed queues to partake in the exercise are people who don’t have NHIS cards but strangely, the EC claims they registered with such cards. Charlotte Osei will fail if she thinks she can do things tom favour Mahama in this year's election” he said.

He added that until all the voters verify and register their names into the new roll, the party would also not allow the EC to end the exercise without doing the right thing.
