15 countries confirm participation in Tennis Championship

Accra, March 18, GNA - 15 countries out of the 43 member countries of the African Table Tennis Federation (ATTF) have confirmed their participation in the 13th Africa Junior Table Tennis Championship to be hosted by Ghana.

The Championship is slated for March 27 to April 8 at the Sports Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium.

Among the countries that have confirmed their participation are Tunisia, Mauritius, Malawi, Togo, Benin, Congo Brazaville, South Africa, Liberia, Gambia, Algeria and Ethiopia.

The rest are Sudan, Burundi, Egypt, Liberia and Burkina Faso. Mr Emmanuel Kwabena Oteng-Aboagye General Secretary of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) who disclosed this to the GNA Sports in an interview said Nigeria and Cote d' Ivoire are yet to confirm their participation.
He said they are hoping that the two countries would confirm their participation before the start of the championship.
Mr Oteng-Aboagye said the participating countries will arrive by March 20 and they are all to be lodged at the Marple Leaf Hotel, Achimota. The General Secretary said executives of the ATTF and umpires are expected to arrive by March 27.
He said the umpires for the championship would undergo a special refresher course to acquaint themselves with the rules and regulations of the game.
Mr Oteng-Aboagye said the participants would compete in 16 events with 16 silver cups at stake.
He said there would also be at stake 34 gold, 34 silver and 64 bronze medals for grabs during the games. 18 March. 04
