‘You may run and hide, but we will surely get you arrested’ – CID boss warns criminals

The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, has issued a stern warning to criminals across Ghana, declaring that no matter how far they run, the police will track them down.

Her remarks follow the Ghana Police Service’s recent success in dismantling a notorious armed robbery syndicate that had been terrorising rural banks in five regions.

“To the criminals out there, always remember that you may run and hide, but we will surely get you arrested to face the full rigours of the law. We are coming for you,” COP Donkor said at a press briefing at the National Police Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

The crackdown, described by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, as a ‘major breakthrough’ in the fight against violent crimes, was carried out in the Ashanti, Ahafo, Western, Central, and Eastern regions.

The coordinated operation led to the arrest of 10 suspects, while three others were killed in a shootout with officers.

The police also recovered weapons, ammunition, vehicles, and mobile phones in the operation.

COP Donkor stressed that the Service will not relent in its mission to root out criminal networks and safeguard public safety.

“We wish to assure the good people of Ghana that the Police Service will continue to work around the clock to ensure security, law, and order at all times,” she said.

She also called on the public to play their role in the fight against crime by reporting suspicious activities and providing credible information.

“As always, we call on all our stakeholders and the general public to continue to support the police, report suspicious activities, and share credible information with the police,” she appealed.

The CID boss’s warning reinforces the IGP’s stance that the Service is determined to make Ghana an unsafe haven for criminals.
