The Ghana Police Service has dismantled a criminal armed robbery gang that had been terrorising communities and was involved in a series of bank robberies across the country.
The 15 suspects, all believed to be members of the same gang, have been apprehended: three were shot dead by police, and 10 are currently in police custody.

Others are reported to be at large, with the police conducting a manhunt for them.
“Through sustained intelligence operations over a period of six months, the Ghana Police Service, under the able leadership of the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has successfully dismantled the notorious criminal syndicates who have been behind several robberies in various regions of the country. The syndicate, believed to be made up about 15 persons, have carried out mainly bank robberies in the Ahafo, Western, Central, Eastern, and Ashanti regions in addition to other robberies.
“So far, 10 members of the syndicate have been arrested and are in police custody... Three other suspects were shot dead following an exchange of fire with the police during the operation, and efforts are ongoing to get the remaining suspects arrested,” the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, said at a press briefing on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.
COP Donkor provided a detailed account of how the robbery syndicate operated, stating that they targeted rural banks, including Adansi Rural Bank at Fomena, Lower Pra Rural Bank in Takoradi, Asokore Rural Bank at Asokwa, Ahafo Kukom Rural Community Bank branch, Nwabiagya Rural Bank at Offinso.
The others are the Bosomtwe Rural Bank at Suntresu, Kakum Rural Bank at Elmina, MRB Bank in Winneba, South Birim Rural Bank at Akyem Asini, EcoBank Ahafo Kenyasi branch and St Martin de Porres Co-op Credit Union at Atonsu Monaco.
Seven arrested for robbery at Ashaiman – Police
The police added that all the robberies were within a space of six months, spanning between April 2025 and September 2025.
Donkor added that some of the suspects have admitted to their involvements in the said crimes.
