Koase Raise 2.3 Million Cedi For Electrification Project

Koase (Brong Ahafo), 31 Oct., The chiefs and people of Koase in the Techiman district realised 2.3 million cedis at a harvest in aid of their electrification and palace projects estimated at 30 million cedis. The inhabitants have so far spent 2.5 million cedis to erect 10 poles and moulded 2,000 cement blocks for the palace. Mr. Wilberforce Kwasi Ankomah, unit committee chairman of the area who announced this at the harvest, said the projects which are part of a four-year development programme are being financed from individual contributions of 7,000 cedis a man and 5,000 cedis a woman. Non-resident citizens are paying 10,000 cedis and 7,000 cedis per man and woman respectively. Mr. Ankomah therefore appealed to the Techiman district assembly to come to their aid by providing poles and cement for completion of the projects on schedule. Mr. Matthew K. Boakye, Brong-Ahafo regional manager of Methodist education unit, commended the people for their initiative and cautioned them to refrain from litigation and other acts likely to impede the development of the area. Mr. Boakye said there is the need for parents to send their children to school, for education is the most essential commodity and fundamental tool for development. In a welcoming address, Mr. Boakye Ameyaw, assemblyman for the area, called on the people to come together and contribute generously to the development of the area. He urged the youth to use such occasions as the harvest to rekindle their communal spirit to attract assistance from non- governmental organisations and district assemblies. Mr. Boakye, who is a citizen of the town, donated one million cedis as his personal contribution towards the execution of the projects.
