New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong has endorsed the alleged assault of colleague MP for Manhyia North in Kumasi, Collins Owusu Amankwah by the Regional Chairman of the party Bernard Antwi Boasiako.

“It is good he [MP] has been beaten, he deserves it, he even deserves more slaps,” Mr. Agyapong said in an interview on Asempa FM Tuesday.

According to Mr. Agyapong, Owusu Amankwah is working against the flagbearer of the party Nana Akufo-Addo, refusing to contribute financially to the cause of the NPP and therefore deserves more beatings.

Mr. Agyapong commended Antwi Boasiako popularly known Chairman Wontumi for “disciplining” the lawmaker, adding that the party needs people of Wontumi’s caliber.

Chairman Wontumi reportedly attacked the MP and his constituency secretary, whilst monitoring the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

The MP later reported the matter to the police at Tafo Pankrono.

Subsequently, the Ashanti Regional Police Command issued a warrant for Wontumi’s arrest to assist in investigations.

Chairman Wontumi on Tuesday reported himself to the police but was later detained forcing party supporters to besiege the Police station demanding the chairman’s release.

He is likely to be arraigned before court Wednesday to be charged for assault of a public officer.

But according to Mr. Agyapong, Chairman Wontumi is only being detained based on the orders of the President John Dramani Mahama.

He alleged that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) was using some NPP members including the Manhyia North MP to foment trouble within the NPP.
