Residents of Afaseibon in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region were left in shock after a woman, suspected to be a witch, was found perched on an avocado tree in the community.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 4:00 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025, when residents initially heard the cry of a wild bird from the avocado tree, only to discover a woman trapped on the tree making the same sound.
The Assembly Member for the area, Emma, in an interview with OTEC News, reported that the situation sent shock waves through the community, with hundreds flocking to catch a glimpse of the woman.
“Eyewitnesses who recounted the incident to me said dogs in the area gathered under the tree, barking at the sound. This drew the attention of residents, who rushed to the scene only to see the woman on top of the tree,” he said.
"The woman, believed to be in her late 50s, could not climb down from the tree until residents called in the Ghana National Fire Service.
“It took the Ghana National Fire Service to get the woman down from the tree using a rope and a ladder. Even the residents were afraid to go near her,” the Assembly Member revealed.
Traditional authorities in the community reportedly poured libation before the woman was taken away by the police.
