Winners Chapel worship activities suspended

Accra, June 10, GNA - The Police have asked the leadership of the Winners Chapel to suspend their worship activities until the impasse between a pastor of the church who is unwilling to go on transfer and the executives are resolved.

This was an outcome of a meeting between the Police Administration led by Nana Owusu-Nsiah, Inspector General of Police, the Executives of the Church and the Pastor, George Agyeman, who is also a banker. Nana Owusu Nsiah in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said the move was taken to forestall any clashes between the supporters of Pastor Agyeman and the Executives of the church.

The Executives of the church recently transferred Pastor Agyeman to another branch but he has refused to go saying that it was a deliberate attempt to get rid of him from Accra.

The IGP said the issue had been referred to the Ghana Pentecostal Council for amicable settlement and until that was done, all church activities should cease to maintain the peace.

"We want to appeal to the members to exercise restraint for the solution to be found for them to return to worship their God." Nana Owusu Nsiah said the Police were monitoring events in the Church to ensure that law and order were maintained.

The Church was established a few years ago by a Nigerian clergyman Bishop Oyadipo and has its headquarters in Nigeria.
