Sachet water producers to be registered

Accra, June 10, GNA - The Ministry of Trade and Industry and President's Special Initiatives in collaboration with the Ghana Standards Board and the Food and Drugs Board would with immediate effect begin to register sachet water producers in the country. This is to enable the agencies to arrest the menace of plastic waste in the system.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr Kodua Edjekumhene, Public Relations Officer at the Ministry, said the exercise would identify all producers to assist in funding the clearing of plastic waste, a problem that they ought to accept responsibility to address. The statement gave the deadline for the registration exercise as June 24 and advised all sachet water producers to register at either the Ministry or its Regional Offices throughout the country.

It warned that any producer, who failed to register, would be punished accordingly and urged the public to provide information on all producers who for obvious reasons might want to avoid coverage. 10 June 04
