Agriculture officers urged to educate farmers

Akyem Oda, Oct 16, GNA - Mr Godwin Ocloo, the Eastern Regional Director of the Ministry of Food And Agriculture, on Monday urged staff of the ministry to educate farmers on the need to modernise agriculture.

He said with the growth rate of about 3.1 percent, food production needed to keep pace with population growth. Mr Ocloo said this at a reception for Mr Kofi Amoako-Tweneboa, the Birim South District Director of Agriculture who is on transfer to the Afram Plains.

He said if the nation was to feed the increasing number of people especially against the background that farmlands were getting scare, modernising agriculture was the only way to increase animals, crops and food production.

Mr Ocloo commended Mr Amoako-Tweneboa on his hard work and expressed optimism that he would prove equal to the task at his new station.

Mr Amoako-Tweneboa expressed his gratitude to the staff for the honour done him and appealed to them to extend the same co-operation to the new district director, Mr Godfried Awuku Sackey.
