Why treat Pastor Chris like president? - Pratt fumes

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

Veteran Journalist Kwasi Pratt Jr is livid over the decision by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command to temporarily block some roads in Accra on Friday 5th February ahead of the ‘Night of Bliss’ event organized by renowned Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s Christ Embassy Church at the Black Star square.

According to him, he finds it difficult to understand why the event was allowed to take place on a Friday which is already a busy day for Ghanaians and the motoring public.

The affected roads which will be closed from midday include: 28th February road at the CEPS Headquarters traffic light, Starlets ‘91’ road at the Ministries traffic light, Castle Road, at AU Circle towards the State House, Starlet ‘91’ road from Osu Cemetery traffic light to the Black Star square and Labone Junction towards Osu.

The rest are: Osu traffic light towards the Cross roads, Otoo Kofi Street behind the Cross roads and Lokko road.

A statement released by the Public Relations office of the Police Command requested motorists to observe the arrangements and plan for alternative routes before embarking on their respective journeys. It added that Police personnel will be positioned at vantage points to assist with traffic direction and diversions for a successful event. As part of smooth vehicular movement the following areas have been earmarked as car parks for the event.

Afua Sutherland Children’s Park, Arts Centre/Hearts Park, Riveria Drive, Cocoa Affairs/Old Court, Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum. They rest are Biaden Powell, Hockey Stadium, Rawlings Park, and City Car Park and Osekan Car Park. However speaking on Peace FM Friday, Kwasi Pratt Junior was beside himself with shock the huge importance that has been given by the state to the pastor’s visit to Ghana.

“Why are we doing all this, as if it’s a presidential visit, do all you want to, I’m not bothered… but to use the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park is so wrong. I’m totally shocked about the way we are treating this visit, as if it’s Obama coming to Ghana. We have no respect for our history… I’m so so angry.

“Fridays are very busy for Ghanaians, in terms of movement, Police sometimes based on the Public Order Act; prevent certain events like demonstration etc from taking place because the day of the event may not be favourable. Why should this event occur on a Friday which is already a bad day. Why was it not postponed to Saturday or Sunday, those days would have been better. We’ll see the huge discomfort that this road block will bring. This will have implications on business and other activities” Kwasi Pratt fumed
