Trader fined for unsanitary practice

Elmina, April 18 GNA- A 27- year- old trader, who left a chamber pot full of human excreta in front of her house, has been fined 350,000.00 cedis, by an Elmina District Court presided over by Mr Beresford Acquah. Maame Esi pleaded guilty and the court ordered that 300,000 cedis of the fine should be paid into the coffers of the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) District Assembly.

Giving the facts of the case, the District Environmental Officer of KEEA, Mr James Makame told the court that Maame Esi did not offer any tangible reason when environmental inspectors discovered the pot, on March 24, 2005.

Passing sentence, Mr Acquah said it was the responsibility of all residents in the town to keep it free from any epidemic.
