The announcement was contained in a press release issued by the Ministry of the Interior and signed by the Minister of the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka.

According to the statement, Friday, March 20, 2026, and Saturday, March 21, 2026, are Eid-ul-Fitr and Shaqq Day, respectively, both recognized as statutory public holidays in the country.

However, because March 21 falls on a Saturday, the government has declared Monday, March 23, 2026, as an additional public holiday to allow the nationwide observance of the celebrations.

The release explained that the declaration was made through an Executive Instrument in line with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), which allows the president to declare an extra holiday when a statutory holiday falls on a weekend.

Part of the statement read; “However, in view of the fact that 21st March 2026 falls on a Saturday, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana has declared Monday, 23rd March 2026 as an Additional Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.”
