Controversies:

In June 2009, Alhaji Muntaka was forced to take a leave of absence and subsequently resigned due to accusations of financial mismanagement and corruption.

During the 2020 general election, he faced widespread condemnation for allegedly allowing his 6-year-old daughter to thumbprint his ballot on his behalf, a violation of Ghana's electoral laws that permit only individuals over 18 years to participate in elections.

He was also charged with allegations of abuse of office and conflict of interest by some officials of the Ministry of Youth and Sports for reportedly using his position to secure a German visa for a woman with whom he was romantically linked. However, after an investigation by CHRAJ, he was cleared of all charges due to a lack of sufficient evidence to support the claims under Ghanaian law.

In January 2021, he alleged that a Supreme Court judge attempted to influence a female member of parliament from the NDC to cast a vote for Mike Oquaye during the Speaker of Parliament election. This claim drew condemnation from legal professionals, who demanded he provide evidence for his allegations.
