Afful wins Bahmed Cycling race.

Accra, July 1, GNA - William Afful of Fire Bunch Cycling Club of Accra clocked a time of two hours 55 seconds (2.55 hrs) to win the first Bahmed Travel and Tours Cycling Championship held in Accra on Sunday. Ayitey Akoto of City Micro placed second with a time of 2.56 hours while Samuel Anim of Young Stars took the third position with a time of 2.57 seconds.

About 60 cyclists from 11 Cycling Clubs throughout the country took part in the 150-kilometre race, which started from the Osu Mobil Filling Station to the Independence Square through Labadi and ended back at Osu. The Championship was sponsored by Bahmed Travel and Tours company. Mr Mohammed Sahnoon, Chairman of the Ghana Cycling Association said the Association is putting in place measures to ensure that the sport is developed.

He said the Aassociation would have however have to depend on the support and collaboration of other stakeholders to ensure its success since the Association cannot singly shoulder the responsibility. Alhaji Ahmed Bandoh Bahmed, Managing Director of Bahmed Travel and Tours, called on the cyclists to take their training seriously so that they can win laurels for themselves and the nation. He also called on corporate bodies and institutions to help develop the sport in the country since the potential is there in abundance.
