Ghana invite England boys

Ghana has called up three England-based players for the Nations Cup qualifier against Rwanda on Sunday in Kigali.

Ghana coach Bukhard Ziese has invited Elvis Hammond (pictured) of Fulham, Patrick Agyeman of Wimbledon and Sheffield Wednesday's Lloyd Owusu.

The Ghanaians must avoid defeat in Kigali to qualify for the tournament in Tunisia.

Ghanaian-born striker Hammond rose through the ranks at Fulham's academy and broke into the first team last December making his debut against Leeds in April this year.

The player came to the attention of the Ghanaian authorities after playing a vital part in Fulham's battle against relegation in the English premiership last season.

Striker Patrick Agyemang of Wimbledon had made his debut with the Black Stars against Nigeria at a four-nation tournament last May.

But Sheffield Wednesday's Lloyd Owusu is seeking his first international cap.

The three players are the new faces in the squad, which is largely unchanged from the one that played a disappointing 1-1 draw with Uganda on June 22 in Kumasi.

Ziese has kept faith in 40-year-old goalkeeper Edward Ansah against massive public criticism.

Bayern Munich defender Samuel Osei Kuffour, who made a return to the Black Stars against Uganda after a one year absence, has been retained.
