PANAFEST to climax at weekend with durbars

Accra, 29 July, GNA - PANAFEST/Emancipation Day celebrations would be climaxed with a durbar on Saturday morning at Anomabu, in the Central Region. A statement signed by Mr Ferdinand Ayim, Chairman, National Planning Committee of the Celebrations in Accra, said the durbar would celebrate George Ekem Ferguson, the renowned Ghanaian Emancipator. This would be followed by a grand durbar of chiefs and performing artistes at Cape Coast with President John Agyekum Kufuor as the Guest of Honour.

The statement said a photo exhibition would be opened at Cape Coast Castle on Sunday and a re-enactment of slaves crossing the River Pra would be staged at Assin Praso. It said Cape Coast would witness a candlelight procession and an Emancipation/Reverential night at Cape Coast Castle. Another durbar to commemorate Emancipation Day would be held at Assin Manso on Monday August 1 where Vice President Aliu Mahama would be the Guest of Honour. Activities of the Emancipation Day include a visit to "Donko Nsuo" (Slave River) and Reverential Garden, a wreath laying ceremony on the tombs of Carson and Crystal and a photo exhibition.
