Rawlings Consoles Royal Family And Britons On Diana's Death

Accra, Aug 31, - President Jerry John Rawlings today expressed shock at the death of Britain's Princess Diana in a car crash in Paris. ''We have learnt with shock and deep sadness of the tragic death of Princess Diana early this morning following a motor accident in Paris,'' President Rawlings said in a message to the British Royal Family and the Prime Minister. President Rawlings said Princess Diana was a deeply sympathetic personality whose dedication to charitable work brought comfort and hope to many the world over. ''Her tragic and untimely death fills us in Ghana with a deep sense of sorrow for her children, family and the British people. ''Indeed, for many people all over the world, she will be missed greatly,'' the statement said. President Rawlings said ''we share very much the pain of her death and wish to express, on behalf of the people, the government of Ghana and on our own behalf, our heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Great Britain, especially the royal family, her children and her parents for the loss''. ''May all those to whom she was dear find consolation in the knowledge that their grief is shared by millions the world over,'' President Rawlings said. Princess Diana and her companion, Dodi Al Fayed, were killed in a car crash early this morning while being chased through Paris by photographers on motorcycles.
