Ghana bourse rises, active Unilever gains

ACCRA, Aug 16 -

The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) index closed firmer on Monday, boosted by gains in foodstuffs company Unilever (UNIL.GH) and aluminium producer Aluworks (ALW.GH), the bourse report showed.

The all-share index closed at 790,12, up 6.75 points, but remains 9.01 percent lower on the year. Volume totalled 166,200 shares, worth 318,534 million cedis ($117,323).

Unilever was on of the most active on Monday, gaining 150 to 1,950.

Databank brokerage said the bourse would be dominated by half-yearly results this week.

``The market is likely to exhibit mixed reactions ...as investors grapple with revaluing the market on the basis of corporate half-year results that are being released,'' it said.
