President John Dramani Mahama was a special guest at the Good Friday Service, held by the United Denominations Originating from the Lighthouse Group of Churches, the church of Dag Heward-Mills, on Friday, April 4, 2026.
The president, as he was about to address the worshippers at the event, told his Aide-de-Camp (ADC), Colonel Abdul Wahab Issah, who was standing behind him, as he does at public events, to sit.
“Oh, soldier, you can't sit down. I'm very safe here. You sit down. Sit down, please,” he said as he heard giggling.
The soldier appeared not to be happy with the president's directive, but Mahama insisted that he take his seat.
The president explained that even though the ADC was doing his job, he was certain he was in a safe place and did not need his protection.
“He's doing his job. He wants to protect me, but I'm telling him I'm with my family,” Mahama said, leading to cheers from the crowd.
