Police in Thailand have arrested six Nigerian men accused of operating a sophisticated romance scam ring that allegedly used artificial intelligence-generated faces and fake video calls to deceive victims online.
According to viral post by International Cyber Digest on X, the suspects were arrested on May 22, 2026, during a police operation in Nonthaburi.
Authorities say the group allegedly used AI technology to create convincing fake identities and manipulated victims through staged video interactions as part of an online romance fraud scheme.

"Yesterday, Thai police arrested six Nigerian men running a romance scam ring built on AI-generated faces and fake video calls in Nonthaburi, Thailand," the caption of the post read.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by Thai law enforcement agencies to crack down on cybercrime and transnational online scams targeting unsuspecting victims.
Investigations into the case are reportedly ongoing as police work to determine the full extent of the alleged fraud network and identify possible victims.
