A tense confrontation occurred in the Manso Bonteso community of the Amansie South District, Ashanti Region, as local youth clashed with officers from the IGP’s Special Anti-Galamsey Task Force.
The incident took place during an operation aimed at seizing an excavator involved in illegal mining activities.
The situation quickly escalated, resulting in injuring of two officers and the arrest of four individuals, as reported by GhanaWebTV, on August 14, 2025.
"Local youth in the Manso Bonteso community of the Amansie South District in the Ashanti Region clashed with officers from the IGP’s Special Anti-Galamsey Task Force during the attempted seizure of an excavator actively engaged in Galamsey,” the caption of the post partly read.
The confrontation led to injuries among the officers and the arrest of four people, including the area assembly member, who allegedly incited the youth.
The suspects have been transferred to Accra for prosecution, while the seized equipment has been moved to the Manso Adubia police station.
This clash highlights the ongoing challenges in combating illegal mining and the tensions between law enforcement agencies and local communities.
