The second day of the flower-laying and candle-lighting ceremony in honour of eight persons who died in the tragic helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region was filled with many emotional scenes as the nation continues to come to terms with the incident.

The First Lady, Lordina Mahama, and several Ministers of State, including the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, took their turns at the ceremony.

The most emotional scene occurred when the First Lady arrived at the Ceremonial Garden in front of the Jubilee House, where the ceremony was taking place.

Lordina Mahama, minutes after arriving at the garden, held the hand of the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, and began wailing.

She clung to her husband’s Chief of Staff as she could be heard moaning. The First Lady’s children, Farida Mahama and Sharaf Mahama, could be seen trying to console her.

After some minutes, Lordina Mahama composed herself and walked to receive a bouquet of flowers from two military women, accompanied by her children and Julius Debrah.

The military women laid the bouquet in front of an edifice displaying the images of the eight victims, with the inscription, “Ghana Mourns.”

After the First Lady left, Sam George also went through the ritual. The Communications Minister had to be carried away from the garden.

The MP broke down in tears and could not even stand on his feet.
