Renowned Ghanaian gospel musician, Jack Alolome, has claimed that white passengers refused to board a flight in the United States after discovering that he was on board.
In a resurfaced video circulating online, the musician is seen sitting alone inside an aircraft that appears to be moving, as he recounts what he describes as a shocking incident.
According to Alolome, the white passengers gave the airline two options: either he would be removed from the flight or they would refuse to board.
“A shocking thing just happened. When I was about to board this flight, because I was the only black person on it, the white people said that if I was going to be on board, they were not going to board the flight.
“They gave two options - either I was dropped or they would not board the flight. I told them, ‘I’m a popular musician from Ghana; I serve the president, so as I am talking to you right now. I come for a visit, and if you make a mistake and force me off the plane, I am going to sue you and use the money to buy a private jet, which I would use to travel back to Ghana’,” he said.
Alolome further claimed that his reference to President John Dramani Mahama influenced the decision not to remove him from the aircraft.
“Because, I said know Mahama I was not dropped and the white people refused to board the plane,” he added.
“They said they would not board the plane and so look I’m the only person on the plane,” the musician said.
The video showed no other passengers inside the aircraft, with Alolome appearing to be the only person on board as the plane appeared to be moving.
However, the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the identities of the passengers and the airline involved, could not be independently established from the video.
The musician’s account has raised questions about alleged racism in an era when globalization is being touted as the new order of the world.
