The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe Abronye aka Abronye DC, has appeared before the Accra Circuit Court following his arrest by the Ghana Police Service.

In a video sighted by GhanaWeb on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, and posted on Facebook, the politician was seen in handcuffs being escorted out of a black police van, known as “Black Maria,” by both uniformed and plainclothes officers.

He was ushered into the inner perimeter of the court.

In a statement shared on the Police Service’s official social media platforms on September 8, 2025, the Service announced that Abronye DC would be processed for court.

According to the statement by the Ghana Police Service, Abronye DC, was arrested for what it described as “offensive conduct.”

“The Ghana Police Service has today, 08/09/25, arrested Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye, for offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace. He is currently in custody and will be put before court,” the statement read.

The arrest follows Abronye’s recent attempts to seek political asylum in eight countries, including Côte d’Ivoire and the United States.

He cited political persecution, threats on his life, and alleged abuse of state security powers by the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government as reasons for his request.

Abronye’s public appearance in court also comes on the heels of earlier concerns raised by his lawyer, Daniel Martey, who claimed that his client’s whereabout was unknown.

“Currently, as it stands, I'm just moving around. I've been to the NIB office and I'm told he's not there. I'm moving to the next NIB office. I'll move back to the National NIB office if I'm permitted to get in. … I'll come back to the Ghana Police National Headquarters and until I get news or get to know that this is where my client is, I'm not stopping.

“Even if the police were to tell me that we are holding your client and we are detaining him for further investigation, that would have been fine. But very unprofessionally, I was just told that my client is being moved down to another office, and we get there, they move my client from the National Headquarters to another office,” he said in an interview on Starr FM on September 9, 2025.
