Watch arrival of Akufo-Addo, Otumfuo to the inauguration of new Kumasi airport

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was in attendance on Friday, May 10, when a refurbished airport in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, was inaugurated.

The Asantehene, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, were the other high-profile guests who graced the occasion as the Kumasi Airport was formally renamed the Prempeh I International Airport.

For such high-profile events, the arrival of top dignitaries is a big deal as people clamour to see them even as security detail put in place measures to ensure the comfort and safety of guests and members of the public.

A video has been shared online of the massive convoy that escorted the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and President Akufo-Addo to the new airport.

Otumfuo as usual arrived in his black car with dispatch riders and a convoy that contained members of his entourage, he arrived and exchanged pleasantries with guests on the dais before the president's convoy came in.

Akufo-Addo and his team also exchanged pleasantries before the formal commencement of the programme.

Established in 1943, it was in 1959, that initial upgrades in the areas of runway and taxiway construction, navigational facilities and the deployment of the necessary human resources were rolled out to enhance operations.

The building of a new terminal in 1993 marked the beginning of the modernization process, with the latest upgrades giving the facility its much-needed international status.
