NEW NGO INAUGURATED IN ACCRA

A Minister of State, Professor Kofi Awoonor, has stated that the African is a unique personality who could not be pushed into the abyss in development.

Professor Awoonor was speaking at the inauguration of African Minds United (AMU), a Non-Governmental Organization, in Accra. AMU is a study group dedicated to researching, examining and analysing African's contributions to the advancement of civilization and its impact on ancient and modern institutions. Professor Awoonor said the upliftment of the youth was the responsibility of the entire community.

He suggested that enough information on Africa and on its people would enhance the recognition of the African personality, and his mind to lead to real African unity.

The Minister said the mind should play the role which led to ones freedom and emphasised the need to be proud of" our identity as Africans".

Mr. Simon Tetteh, president, of AMU said the organization believed that the application of ancient African wisdom, knowledge, values and concepts of spirituality could result in the healing of social, economic and political problems. Ghanaian Times
