Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has called on Ghanaians to maintain peace and decorum during electoral processes, cautioning that political passion must never lead to violence.
Her comments were made in a post on X on Saturday, July 12, 2025, following the parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North Constituency.
She congratulated Ewurabena Aubynn for the decisive victory she earned yesterday at Ablekuma North.
“I congratulate Ewurabena Aubynn for the decisive victory she earned yesterday at Ablekuma North. I salute her courage and sense of focus,” the Vice President stated.
She, however, expressed concern over some violent incidents recorded during the rerun.
“We also witnessed some unfortunate incidents at that election. While it is good to be interested in the direction our country is taking, we should not allow our passion to devolve into violence. Human life is precious”, she indicated.
Prof Opoku-Agyemang further urged a collective commitment to ensuring that elections in Ghana become peaceful and routine national events.
“Let us get to a place where elections are, by default, orderly and even ordinary events,” she added.
She concluded with a message of goodwill: “I wish everybody a peaceful weekend, and may God bless us all.”
The rerun at Ablekuma North was held on Friday, July 11, 2025, following a legal dispute over the 2024 parliamentary results. Ewurabena Aubynn, the candidate for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), emerged victorious.
I congratulate Ewurabena Aubynn for the decisive victory she earned yesterday at Ablekuma North. I salute her courage and sense of focus.
