The Presidency has announced that the National Orchid Garden in Singapore has honoured President John Dramani Mahama with a new orchid hybrid, “Vanda John Dramani Mahama,” unveiled during his visit to the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
The update was shared on the official page of the Presidency on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

"The National Orchid Garden has honoured President JD Mahama with a newly named orchid hybrid, “Vanda John Dramani Mahama,” unveiled during his visit to the Singapore Botanic Gardens," the post read.
It noted that the orchid now forms part of the Garden’s prestigious “VIP Orchids” collection, which is reserved for visiting heads of state, heads of government, and other distinguished personalities.

"The orchid will join the Garden’s renowned “VIP Orchids” collection, a tradition that pays tribute to visiting heads of state, heads of government, and other distinguished guests. President Mahama signed the visitors’ book and received a briefing on the history of the Gardens as part of his tour," it noted.
The post indicated that, "The National Orchid Garden’s long-standing practice of naming orchid hybrids after world leaders is considered an emblem of diplomatic goodwill and a celebration of Singapore’s cultural heritage. The orchids also symbolise growth and resilience, reflecting the nation’s own transformation. ‘Vanda John Dramani Mahama’ now joins a distinguished line of floral tributes dedicated to international leaders who have visited the Singapore Botanic Gardens, underscoring the importance of horticulture in soft diplomacy and global partnerships'".
