VRA Workers On Strike

"TARZAN Must Go"..... Workers Demand
Workers of the Volta River Authority (VRA) are starting a nationwide strike action this morning to back their demand for the removal of their chief executive, Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby. Both unionized workers and senior staff at the VRA’s offices at Aboadze, Accra, Tema and Akosombo resolved to embark on the industrial action to protest Dr Wereko Brobby’s continued stay in office.

The workers’ action follows closely on the heels of the formation of a committee to investigate various allegations against the Chief Executive, management and the board of VRA.

But the workers are arguing that the Chief Executive and the board cannot remain at post while investigations are underway. They therefore resolved at separate, but co-ordinated meetings to lay down their tools until the Chief Executive is removed from office. Meanwhile, workers at the Akosombo are also planning to stage a protest march in Accra.

.. THREATENS BLACKOUT…SAYS CANNOT GUARANTEE POWER SUPPLY UNDER TARZAN

Five days after the deadline from VRA workers to government to remove their CEO, Dr. Charles Wereko Brobby, signals from the control rooms are that the nation may soon be plunged into total blackout. Like the second coming of Christ, the exact date and time has not been specified, but from the “signs of the fig tree” it is going to be this week.

They, therefore, cautioned President Kufuor to beware of the consequences if he failed to hear their appeal and embarked on trips to look for investors to a country where power supply cannot be guaranteed.

“Chronicle” tapped this information from meetings that were held on Monday, this week, a few hours after Paa Kwesi Nduom, Energy Minister, made government’s position clear on the impasse between the power producers and their boss at meetings that were held at the Aboadze Thermal Plant, others came from Tema, Kumasi and Akosombo.

On May 19, the VRA staff groups – Western area – passed a resolution signed by the chairman, Senior Staff Association (SSA), Western branch and the union chairman, Aboadze, stating that” Dr. Charles Wereko and the Board cannot remain in office while investigations go on.
