Playwright and Chief Executive Officer of Roverman Productions, James Ebo Whyte is of the greatest conviction that 2020’s Ghana Music Awards will chalk success.

Describing the scuffle which ensued between reggae/dancehall acts Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy during the 20th edition of the scheme as “fluke”, the celebrated playwright intimated that organisers of the event should not be crucified having organized nineteen successful editions.

“That incident was a fluke. That is not as. As a people, as performers, that’s not us” he told GhanaWeb.com. “It is an aberration. I suspect that the reason it could even happen is that nobody expected it. If that had been our character, I’m sure the security would have been tighter and the person wouldn’t have had access to the stage. But we know in Ghana, the worst thing that can happen after the awards is somebody who thought he should have won, would issue a bitter statement.”

A brawl erupted between Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale camps at the 20th anniversary of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards after the former was announced the winner of ‘Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year’ for the fifth time.

Just when Stonebwoy was about to deliver his acceptance speech for the award, Shatta Wale started walking to him on stage with a host of others presumed to be his fans.

As Shatta Wale and his entourage approached the stage, there were exchange of blows between members of the two camps – a situation which made Stonebwoy pull out a gun.

It took security personnel on duty almost thirty minutes to ensure sanity.

“What happened was unfortunate,” Uncle Ebo Whyte maintained.

“I don’t think it will happen again. I predict that Charterhouse will put up an even better and mind-blowing 21st edition of the awards… Charterhouse had been able to organize this for twenty years and we hadn’t heard of this.”

Roverman Production is set to stage its second play for the year 2019.

Titled ‘I Want Your Wife’, the play, according to Ebo Whyte will worth the while of patrons.

‘I Want You Wife’ shows on 6th and 7th July; 13th and 14th July at the National Theatre. There will be two shows on each day with the first showing at 4PM and the second, 8PM.
