Uncle speaks after SHS student found dead in deep freezer

The tragic death of a student of Namong Senior High/Technical School has raised concerns among the public, as the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.

The uncle of the deceased, Job Amoateng, has narrated details of how the body of his niece, Rita, was discovered in a deep freezer.

Speaking in an interview with the Crime Check Foundation on YouTube, Job Amoateng explained that the incident occurred on Friday, March 13, 2026.

According to him, Rita’s mother, Sophia, a trader, had asked her daughter to accompany her to the market that day, but the young girl declined, saying she intended to attend school on Monday.

He further noted that Sophia's relationship with her husband had been strained. Rita, the youngest of Sophia’s three children, lived with her mother at Barikese.

“I heard around 1:00 p.m. on Friday that Rita was dead. According to the information, her mother had woken her up to go to the market but Rita refused, insisting she would be going to school on Monday,” he recounted.

Job Amoateng added that Sophia later returned home but could not find her daughter. Concerned, she asked her other children to check at Rita’s father’s house.

“However, when they got there, the father said Rita had visited earlier in the afternoon but was no longer there, and he himself did not see her when she went there,” he explained.

According to him, Sophia, who had earlier left Rita at home to attend to her usual trading activities, became alarmed after failing to locate her daughter.

He said Sophia eventually sought the help of a carpenter to break open the door to the room.

“After gaining access, one of the women she had gone to the market with brought corn dough to cook, but since it was late, they decided to store it in the fridge. When they opened the deep freezer, they discovered Rita’s lifeless body inside,” he stated.

The incident was subsequently reported to the Offinso Police Station, and the body was conveyed to the mortuary for preservation and further investigation.
