As the Muslim community celebrates Eid al-Fitr after a holy month of fasting, GhanaWeb TV took to the streets of Accra to speak with livestock vendors about how business is faring during the festive season.

Some livestock sellers who spoke exclusively to GhanaWeb’s Victoria Kyei Baffour said they have not seen any significant increase in sales.

According to them, sales figures so far are similar to what was recorded during the same period last year.

“A lot of people usually prepare for the big Sallah, which is when you see many of them buying sheep, cows, and goats for sacrifice. But overall, we thank God because the sales are not bad either,” one vendor said.

He further explained that during Eid al-Adha celebrations, they typically record higher sales, adding that individuals sometimes purchase as many as 10 sheep.

“During the big Sallah, someone can come and buy about 10 sheep or cows. That is when we really make sales,” he added.

Another Muslim trader also expressed gratitude to Allah for granting them the opportunity to witness another festive season.

However, he noted that sales have been poor for him this period.

“We thank Allah for another year. We ask Allah Almighty to bless everyone, grant us forgiveness, and shower us with blessings. We also pray that the government will do more. There is food available, but people don’t have the money.

“In the past, during Sallah, many people would come to buy. The items are still available, and they are not even expensive, but there is no money to purchase them. So, we want the government to do better,” another seller stated.
