The Embassy of the United States of America (USA) in Ghana has reacted to the stampede that occurred at the El-Wak Stadium during a military recruitment exercise on Wednesday, November 13, 2025.
The incident, which has been attributed to an unexpected surge of applicants who breached protocol in an official communication by the Ghana Armed Forces, has also left five people in critical condition and receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while others sustained various degrees of injuries.

According to the US Embassy, it is mourning the loss and offering its condolences to the bereaved families and the people of Ghana as a whole.
"The US Embassy offers its deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives during the November 12 recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra. Our thoughts are with the people of Ghana in this painful moment," it said in a statement on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
Meanwhile, the Acting Minister of Defence, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has disclosed that some of the casualties in the stampede incident at the El-Wak Sports Stadium during the military recruitment exercise were not related to the enlistment.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on November 12, 2025, Dr Ato Forson stated that 34 persons were affected, some of whom were applicants who had come for the enlistment exercise, while others were not related to it at all.

"Unfortunately, despite these measures, a stampede occurred at the El-Wak facility in Accra. I regret to report that there were 34 persons who were direct casualties, some of whom are potential recruits and others, Mr Speaker, unfortunately, are not related to the enlistment at all," he disclosed.
