The University of Education, Winneba has reportedly suspended the election of a Pro-Vice Chancellor following a lawsuit against the process.

“The University has suspended the election which was slated for today, and so we will follow the due process and see what comes out of it,” PRO of the University, Ernest Azutigah told Accra-based Citi FM.

A Senior Lecturer and former UTAG President at the University of Education, Dr. Frimpong Kaakyire Duku has dragged the University to court in what he describes as discrimination and illegality being perpetrated in the election of a Pro-Vice Chancellor.

He argues in his suit that participation has been skewed and limited to benefit a select few to the disadvantage of other equally qualified persons.

He wants the University to pull the brakes on the unlawful conventions immediately to open up the process in the rightful way.

“We need to revisit our statutes and use what the statutes says. So the nomination should be avoided. Whoever is now interested and qualified per the statutes should avail himself or herself to be elected,” he said.
