The Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, Rev. Professor Anthony Afful-Broni says he will not be distracted by the war of words between the University and former President Jerry John Rawlings, who wants him to step aside.

Speaking to Starr News’ Ibrahim ALhassan on the sidelines of the signing of an MoU between the millennium challenge alliance and the UEW, the VC said: “I don’t pay attention to unnecessary distractions. I’m very very positioned, I’m very poised. These are, some people will call it, an occupational hazard but I don’t think that these things bother me at all.”

“If you don know where you are going then any little thing confuses you. And I know where exactly I.m going and I know what exactly I’m doing,” he added.

In 2017, a Winneba High Court ordered Professor Mawutor Avoke, a former VC of UEW to step aside pending the determination of a case of alleged financial malfeasance and procurement breaches brought before the court by the Governing Council of UEW.

Subsequently, a new VC Professor Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni was appointed and sworn into office by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Ex-president Rawlings in a statement said the office is privy to some allegations and subsequent petitions submitted by the former acting Finance Officer of UEW, Mr Bruno Chirani to the Governing Council of UEW and three investigative State Agencies for investigation.

He has therefore called on the VC to step aside for “fairness to prevail as previously the case with others in similar circumstances.”
