El-Wak Stadium to be completed next month

Accra, Jan 9, GNA - Construction work at the El-Wak Stadium will be completed next month.

The Military stadium will however be ready for use in April because regressing of the playing field will require about three months for the grass to blossom.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) Sports can confirm after a visit to the stadium that the arena has new facilities such as dressing rooms, wash rooms, tartan tracks and cubicles to serve as commentary box for the electronic media, a mini conference room and an extended VIP box. Interestingly, the venue, which will serve as a training ground for CAN 2008 has no press box for the print media.

However, the wooden stands did not receive a face lift except for the changing of the weak wooden slaps resting on the painted iron bars.

Work began at the Stadium in May, while it was supposed to be completed last October but had to be pushed forward due to financial constraints.

The mini stadium served as an alternative for some premiership clubs when the nation's Wembley, the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium was closed down for a face lift in readiness for CAN 2008, which Ghana will be hosting.
