PBC urges cocoa farmers to accept cheques for payment

Sreso-Tinpom (Ash), Aug. 18, GNA - Cocoa farmers in the Nyinahin Cocoa District have been asked to accept Akuafo cheques for the payment of their produce when the system is re-introduced during the major crop season.

Nana Adjei Manu Berchie, Nyinahin District Manager of the Produce Buying Company (PBC), explained that apart from the safety of their money, the use of cheques would prevent malpractices such paying them with fake currencies.

He was speaking at separate meetings with cocoa farmers at Sreso-Tinpom, Wansammire and Kusikrom all in the Atwima District at the weekend.

Nana Berchie said beside the prompt payment of bonus, the chances of acquiring loans from the banks would be enhanced through the use of the Akuafo cheques.

He advised the farmers to ensure that all cocoa sold to the company's marketing clerks were properly recorded in their passbooks to facilitate the determination of their bonuses.

Nana Berchie advised them to refrain from selling their cocoa to buyers, who used hanging scales. They should maintain the sale of quality beans to enable the country to keep its prestige as a leading quality cocoa producing country.
