Trader granted 10 million cedis bail for fraud

Cape Coast, Feb. 25, GNA - Foster Mireku Asante, a trader in Cape Coast was on Friday granted 10 million cedis bail for allegedly defrauding one Mr Thomas Ayirisu of two million cedis under the pretext of selling him a room for a store.

He pleaded not guilty and would reappear on Thursday March 10. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Hope Azasoo told the court presided over by Mr Beresford Acquah, that the complainant is a pharmacist, and that sometime in November 2003, Mr Ayirisu who needed a room for a store, had information that Asante had one to sell.

He said Mr Ayirisu met Asante, who agreed to sell the store at 144 million cedis, to which he (Ayirisu) agreed, and alleged that from then on, Asante collected various sums of money amounting to two million cedis, from both Mr Ayirisu and his wife.

Inspector Azasoo said afterwards, Mr Ayirisu had information that Asante had sold the store to a different person, so he went to ask for a refund of his money, but all efforts to get it back proved futile and he made a report to the police.

He said during interrogation, Asante admitted the offence.
