Two weeks art exhibition opens in Kumasi

Kumasi, Feb.25, GNA- Alliance Francaise, in collaboration with the French Embassy in Ghana and the Faculty of Fine Art of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is organising a two-week painting and sculpture exhibition in Kumasi dubbed: "Faces and Phases". It is showcasing the work of students of the Faculty.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Benoit Oliviser, Director of Alliance Francaise in Kumasi said, the School would launch a Franco-Festival in the Metropolis in March this year.

The festival will involve cultural performances, musical concerts and film shows from Francophone countries.

Opening the exhibition, Dr Daniel Ohene-Adu Dean of the Faculty of Fine Art, expressed the need for artists to communicate their personal concerns and that of society in their works.

"While some of the works propose arguments that seem to be for the notion of art as beauty, others aim at questioning this very notion with a sense of wit and an almost tongue-in-cheek parody," he explained.
