Three drivers fined a total of 1m cedis for traffic offences

Cape Coast August 23, GNA- A Cape Coast circuit court presided over by Mr Mustapha Logoh, on Friday fined Anthony Yeboah, a driver 600,000 cedis for various traffic offences.

Yeboah, pleaded guilty to three counts of failing to provide comfortable seats for passengers, over loading and driving without a licence and he will go to prison for six months if he fails to pay the fine.

Police Inspector Hope Azasoo, told the court that last Tuesday, the police were on their usual patrols of the highway when they intercepted Yeboah who driving from Elmina to Jukwa. He said the vehicle was overloaded with fish, with some on the roof of the vehicle, which had no carrier, and that seven of the passengers, were also not comfortably seated.

Inspector Azasoo said Yeboah could also not produce his driving licence when he was asked to do so In another development, a Magistrate's court presided over by Mr Peter Asare-Duah fined two drivers, Thomas Donkor and Kobina Otwe, 200,000 cedis each or three months imprisonment each.

Donkor and Otwe pleaded guilty to carrying excess passengers and parking at an unauthorised place respectively.

According to the prosecution, last Saturday, Donkor who drives a cargo truck, was intercepted by the police patrol team on the Mankessim -Ajumako road carrying five passengers instead of three while Otwe was arrested for parking his Mercedes Benz bus at an unauthorised place at Mankessim.
