'This is unacceptable' - Alan Kyerematen reacts to Obogu tragedy

The founder and leader of the Movement for Change, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, has described the alarming rate of road crashes claiming lives in the country as “unacceptable.”

In a statement shared on his Facebook page, on July 29, 2025, Alan Kyerematen expressed his devastation over the fatal road crash on the Juaso–Nkawkaw highway, which claimed the lives of at least 15 members of the Obogu Saviour Church.

He strongly criticised the persistent inaction in addressing Ghana’s deteriorating road infrastructure which has been identified as one of the major causes of road carnage.

He partly attributed the crisis to human negligence and systemic failure.

“Ghana is bleeding on its roads. Year after year, we lose thousands of precious lives not because of war or natural disaster but because of human negligence, lax enforcement, poor road conditions, and systemic failure. This is unacceptable. This must stop. We cannot continue to treat road accidents as routine,” he said.

Alan emphasised the urgent need for stakeholders and relevant agencies to take swift and decisive action to prevent recurring road incidents and ensure safer travel conditions for road commuters.

“We must act with urgency and resolve. I call on the government, the National Road Safety Authority, law enforcement, and transport unions to immediately strengthen safety protocols, enforce traffic laws without fear or favour, and ensure that our roads are no longer death traps,” he added.

The politician expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and those affected by the tragic Obogu incident, offering his support and prayers during this difficult time.

“I am devastated and heartbroken by the unspeakable tragedy that occurred on the Juaso–Nkawkaw highway, which claimed the lives of at least 15 members of the Obogu Saviour Church including the beloved children of the church’s Head Pastor. Words cannot capture the depth of grief that this accident has cast over the Obogu community, and indeed, our entire nation.

“On behalf of the Movement for Change, I extend my sincerest condolences to the families of the departed, the leadership and congregation of the Obogu Saviour Church, and the entire Obogu township. This is a loss too painful to comprehend. No parent should ever have to bury their child, and no community should have to mourn so many of its young and faithful in a single moment,” he said.
