Tension looms in Ga State

There is uneasy calm in Ga State and its surrounding environs in the Greater Accra region following reports that there is a grand plan to destool Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Adama Latse II, known in private life as Mr. George Tackie, Today has gathered.

Information making rounds indicate that some Dzaasetse (kingmakers) from royal house of the Ga Traditional Council have secretly enstooled a new chief for Ga state and intend to outdoor him in the coming days, with no official notification of the destoolment of Nii Adama Latse II.

Though the Ga state is currently being ruled by Nii Adama Latse II, information picked up from sources close to the legitimate kingmakers indicates that the Ga State "has enstooled someone they claim to be the new chief of Ga state to replace Nii Adama Latse on the grounds that he is not the rightful ruler of the area."

The sources further suggested that the enstoolment of another chief for Ga State signifies the resurgence of some kind of chieftaincy disputes to derail the development of Ga State.

Today sources indicate that tension is rising among the youth as some people have vowed to defend their 'genuine and only' Paramount Chief, Nii Adama Latse, with the last drop of their blood.

Sources warned that “chieftaincy-related disputes remained the most serious threat to political stability, peaceful co-existence, and human development in the country. Any individual who attempts to sow a seed of destruction in Ga State will live to regret it.”

Meanwhile, the feuding faction of Nii Adama Latse, the sources hinted, was waiting for the trouble makers in the Ga State.

"We hear that the man who calls himself the new Ga Mantse is being backed by some powerful people in Ga State.

"...this is because we hear that the man will be escorted by some National Security operatives," some youth who are close to the Ga Stool said.

The youth who were furious about the development called on President John Dramani Mahama, National Security, Police, Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and the Military to be on alert and ensure that nothing untoward happens.

However, when contacted by Today on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 via telephone, the legitimate Dzaasetse (kingmaker) of Ga Traditional Council, Nii Tetteh Kwei II, confirmed that his outfit was working seriously to install the rightful person to ascend the throne of Ga Mantse, stressing that the" Ga state has no legitimate chief as at now."

According to Nii Tetteh Kwei, who is from the Amugi Royal House of Ga state, none of the self-acclaimed men (Nii Adama Latse II and Nii Tackie Oblie II) who is holding himself out there as chief of the Ga Stool has been officially proclaimed by him as the chief of Ga state.

The kingmaker asserted that the enstoolment of King Adama Latse has resulted in a state of confusion which the Ga state finds itself presently.

He recounted that the late Nii Tackie Tawiah III, known in private life as Dr. Joe Blankson, was acknowledged by the Ga Traditional Council as the legitimate Ga Mantse since the demise of the late Ga Mantse, Nii Amugi.

He pointed out that the new chief was out-doored at the Ga Mantse Palace at Kaneshie in the Greater Accra region during which a self-acclaimed Dzaasetse, Nii Amarkai III, proclaimed the said newly enstooled chief as the apparent heir to the Ga throne without the knowledge of the Ga Traditional Council.

“The issue is that we [Ga Traditional Council] have not elected any Ga Mantse since the demise of Nii Tackie Tawia III. By the Ga custom it is only me (the Dzaasetse) who has the power to hand over whoever has been nominated and selected as the Ga Mantse to the ‘Sentse’ who is supposed to lead in the enstoolment of a Ga Mantse,” he stressed.
