The Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Prince Billy Anaglate has said the swift intervention of his outfit at the Tema motorway where a gas tanker toppled over prevented the incidence of an explosion from occurring.

A gas tanker carrying gas Wednesday morning fell off the Accra stretch of the Tema motorway with the gas leaking from the vehicle.

Mr. Anaglate narrating the incident to Ghanaweb.com said he received a distress call from an eye witness at the scene of the accident, prompting him to quickly dispatch his men from the Tema post to go to the scene.

“I had a call from a friend who was driving through the motorway this morning reporting that there was a gas tanker that fell off the motorway so I called our control room here and they dispatched our tender from Tema” he stated.

“One of the valve was open so the gas was leaking into the atmosphere. Looking at vehicles that were passing and the tendency of them picking fire from the source of the leakage was very high so they managed to get to where the valve was and then they shut it to prevent further leakage into the atmosphere” he narrated.

Mr. Anaglate said his men further used the foam compound to reduce the level of ignition temperature of the gas in the atmosphere to also prevent any fire from occurring.
