A funeral ceremony at Agona Otwii-Krom in the Agona East District of the Central Region turned tragic when a swarm of bees launched an unexpected attack, leaving two people in critical condition and injuring several others.
The mourners had gathered at the community durbar grounds near Agona Kwanyarko on Saturday to pay their last respects to two deceased persons.
However, the solemn event resulted into chaos when the bees, reportedly from an unknown source, descended on the crowd moments after the burial.

According to adomonline report on November 16, 2025, former Assembly Member for the Agona Fawumanya Electoral Area, Albert Quainoo, said the swarm swept through the entire community, stinging not only mourners but also animals, including sheep, goats and cattle along the main street.
He described the attack as unprecedented and deeply unsettling for residents.
Quainoo disclosed that the community was already grappling with grief following the deaths of two mourners from Akyem Apradi in a road accident the previous Friday as they travelled to attend the funeral.

He added that many residents are now hesitant to return to the community centre for the continuation of the funeral rites scheduled for Sunday, fearing a repeat of the attack.
Family heads and opinion leaders reportedly had to flee the scene as the bees took over the area.
