Forum On Environment Impact Assessment Opens In Kumasi

Kumasi,(Ashanti Region) 1, Oct. A Public Forum on Environmental impact assessment of the proposed Natural Resource Management Project (NRMP) has opened in Kumasi. It is being Funded jointly by the World Bank (WB), African Development Bank (ADB) and the Department of International Development, formerly Overseas Development Agency (ODA). The 52 million-dollar project, covering five years has the broad objective to improve on the policy and regulatory environment for forest resource management, enhanced local community involvement in sustainable management of Natural Resources and the implementation of the National Forest Protection Strategy. Briefing the forum on the project, Mr Kofi Smith, Technical Director of the Ministry of Lands and Forestry which organised the forum said, the aim of the forum is to give stakeholders which are mainly NGO's, communities in the forest reserve areas, the opportunity to express their views on the proposed project. He said, the project will adopt a broad sectoral approach covering the management, conservation, enhancement and sustainable utilisation of forest, savannah, woodland and wildlife resources.
