Ghana Plays France In Desailly Farewell Match ?

France's have announced an August clash with Ghana - raising speculation that the match could be the last international for Marcel Desailly.

Desailly was born in Ghana but is the record caps holder for Les Bleus with the 113th, and most recent, won on Wednesday night in the 0-0 draw with Holland in Rotterdam.

The choice of the Black Stars as France's opponents in their first post-Euro match has all the hallmarks of a gala occasion to mark Desailly's retirement, even if he has not confirmed yet he will step down.

Desailly has always retained an affection for his native country and has said in the past that he would one day like to work with the Black Stars when his playing days are over.

He has been a regular since making his France debut in 1993 establishing himself as a mainstay of the team that won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000.

However, there have been signs of decline with the 35-year-old no longer a guaranteed starter for his English club side Chelsea.

Jacques Santini has previously stated that no player not playing regular first-team football will be considered for national service but Desailly has played in both friendlies this year for France and looks to have earned his ticket to Portugal.

The Ghana match will be played on 18 August in Rennes
