Vane, (V/R), Nov. 19, GNA- Kingmakers of the Avatime traditional area have been called upon to elect a successor to the late Osie Adja Tekpor early and in peace. The Minister of Chieftaincy and Culture, Mr S.K Boafo and the Presidents of the National and Volta Region Houses of Chiefs made the call in tributes to the memory of late Osie Adja Tekpor VI at Vane on Saturday.

Mr Boafo who read President John Agyekum Kufuor's tribute said it was imperative that an early replacement to the late Osie was accomplished in a peaceful atmosphere.

That he said would be a worthy honuor to the late Osie in view of the height to which he had uplifted the Avatime traditional area in matters of Chieftaincy in the country.

On his part Odeneho Gyapong Ababio said the development of the traditional area depended very much on a peaceful and early election of a successor to the late Osie. Togbega Gabusu VI, President of the Volta Region House of Chiefs said the whole country, especially people of the Volta region were waiting anxiously to see how the kingmakers would go about selecting a successor to the late Osie Adja Tekpor.

He said the kingmakers of Avatime have the opportunity to redeem the image of Chieftaincy in the Volta region in view of controversies associated with the selection of chiefs there.

Togbega Gabusu said the chieftaincy institution has of late been the target of criticism by politicians on account of the controversies associated with it.

He said it was important that the future successor to the late Osie adopted the leadership style of his predecessor who was forebearing, patient, wise and dignifying in challenging situations. Alluding to his stool name, (Gabusu), which means uneasy is the head that wears the crown, Togbega Gabusu said the nice tributes dedicated to the late Osie by his subjects were contrary to the troubles and vilification he had to endure from them during his lifetime. He said but as a leader and peacemaker the late Adja Tekpor bore everything in dignity and without malice. 19 Nov. 06
